Fabricated Realities – June 3-5th

Art Kitchen presents Olympia’s first ever story gaming convention running June 3rd through 5th at The Procession of the Species Studio. The studio has been transformed by local artists into a collection of fantastic environments that the gaming tables are located within, including a floating castle, a crystal cavern, outer space, a post-apocalyptic cafe, a dark forest, and more!

Full Passes cost $35 and are available online at fabricatedrealities.com and at The Danger Room on the corner of 4th and Columbia in downtown Olympia. Space is extremely limited so purchase your tickets early. Day passes will be sold at the door on an as-available basis.

We at Fabricated Realities are using the term “story games” according to Clinton R. Nixon’s usage: to encompass all games, traditional or edgy, with a focus on creating fiction. This event will lean heavily towards games with creative equality amongst their players and story at the forefront of their design.

Echoing the do-it-yourself music scene, the advent of print on demand publishing has allowed for many independent game designers to flourish. Though chiefly organized through the internet, there is an inordinately strong concentration of these designers in the Pacific Northwest and we’re excited to welcome the entire spectrum of designers to the convention, from those who’ve tweaked a house-rule all the way up to those who’ve published their game into a product.

Several of these story games have been brought to market within the last year, and are designed in such a way as to be enjoyed by old-hand and non-gamer alike. We’re excited to play Apocalypse World, Anima Prime, Perfect: Unrevised, G X B, Microscope, and Panty Explosion Perfect, in addition to older favorites like Fiasco, Shock: Social Science Fiction, Polaris, and Dogs in the Vineyard.

While Fabricated Realities is for people of all ages, some games we’ll play have adult themes such as violence, sex, responsibility, compassion, hope, and transformation. There will be many good-hearted facilitators on hand to introduce new games to festival goers, and help people pick what to play. Our three-day schedule includes 10 gaming slots and lots of relaxed social time.

Come dream, imagine and explore with us.
